Internal Competitions

NEW BECKENHAM BOWLS CLUB

COMPETITION INFORMATION SHEET 2023

 

Summary of Internal Club Competitions:    

Competitions are open to full playing members unless otherwise stated.

Men’s Competitions :  to be played over a full season

  1. Men’s Championship Singles (Glibbery Cup):   4 woods played to 21 shots (or any other score as mandated by Bowls England).

The Mens Championship winner will be expected to represent the Club in the following seasons Bowls England Champion of Champions, London & Southern Counties Gold Badge, and the BB&DBA Champion of Champions Competitions.

The Championship runner up will be expected to play in the London & Southern Counties Lonsdale Trophy.

  1. Men’s Handicap Singles  (Tolhurst Cup):  4 woods to 21 shots
  2. Men’s Handicap Pairs (Keighley Cup):  4 woods to 18 ends.

Handicaps: Handicaps are allocated to each player by the Men’s Committee according to B.E. rules.
Singles - handicaps are applied separately to each player's starting score. Therefore, if you have a negative handicap, you start with a negative score and vice versa.

Pairs - each player has an individual handicap which are added together to get a team handicap, and this is the score the team starts with.

  • Denis King TROPHY: determined by Men’s Captain/Committee and awarded to the player with the highest Seasonal Aggregate score over the season.

 

Ladies Competitions :   to be played over a full season

  1. Ladies Championship SINGLES:  4 woods played to 21 shots (or any other score as mandated by Bowls England).

The Ladies Champion will be given the opportunity, if desired, to represent the Club in the following seasons Bowls England Ladies Champion of Champions and the BB&DBA Champion of Champions Competitions

  1. Club Bowler:  3 wood Singles played to 18 ends.
  2. 4 WOOD PAIRS: played to 18 ends. Pairs will be drawn.
  3. THE Rosebowl:   2 wood Pairs played to 21 ends. Pairs will be drawn.

LADIES ONE DAY COMPETITION

  • THE Round Robin:   One day Singles Competition. Number of woods and ends varied according to entry. Final played on the same day.

Competitors are divided into 2 groups who then proceed to play one another within their group until a winner of each group is identified to play the Final on the SAME DAY. 

 

MIXED CLUB COMPETITIONS (ONE DAY):

 

  • The 2-WOOD DAY:   Combination of TWO Mixed, Singles Competitions as follows:
  1. R F Smith CUP:  2 woods to 21 ends
    • The winners of their first match continue in the Smith Cup until knocked out.
    • The losers of their first R F Smith Cup match (whether they had a bye or not) go into the:
  2. John Moore Plate:   Singles Competition for players losing in their first round of

                       the R F Smith Cup.   2 woods to 21 ends.

Both Competitions are played out on knock-out basis until the finalists are identified and these finals will be played on Finals Weekend.

 

  • THE 100 UP : 4 WOOD DAY.  Combination of TWO Mixed Singles Competitions as follows:
  1. Centenary Cup, 100 Up Singles:   4 woods to 100 points.

Scoring is that the 4 bowls nearest the jack score 7, 5, 3 and 1 point respectively.

A maximum of 16 points can be won in one end.

The winners of their first match continue in the Centenary Cup until knocked out.

The losers of their first match go into the:-

 

  1. 100 Up Plate:  Singles Competition for players losing in their first round of

the Centenary Cup.   4 woods to 100 points.

Both Competitions are played out on knock-out basis until the finalists are identified and these finals will be played on Finals Weekend.

  • Mixed PAIRS :  A revised Club format played off in one day (except Final).
    • Played on a Round Robin basis, drawn pairs are divided into 2 groups who then proceed to play one another within their group until a winner of each group emerges.

The number of woods and ends will vary according to entry.

Scoring for qualifying rounds is:  2 pts win, 1 pt draw.

The final of 18 ends is played off on Final’s weekend

 

  • THE Mike OBrien TROPHY:

This is a memorial event comprising a mixed, 2-wood Triples competition and is open to all playing and social Members.

  • Teams are drawn and divided into 2 groups who play the other teams within their group on a Round Robin basis until 2 group winners emerge to play the FINAL on the SAME DAY.

 

MIXED SEASON LONG EVENT

Manning TROPHY: (Tuesday Triples League).

This is also our Club night and intended to encourage new bowlers to participate.

This Competition is organised separately from the Internal Club Competitions. 

Open to all members including Social members on payment of additional fee set by the Committee.

  • 6 teams will be drawn, with a reserve pool.
  • Each team will choose their own leader and each week the selected team will choose their captain for the night.

Scores accumulate on a points system.  2 pts for a win, 1 pt. for a draw.

NOTES:

The DRAWS for the various season long competitions will be made after the designated closing date, once the entry forms are received.

The Draws will be made by the Captains and Competition Secretaries and open to playing members as outlined above.

The results will then be posted on the Club Notice Board and the Club Website.

 

Competition Rule Reminder: 

  • In the Draw, the first named player or team (the ‘challenger’) is responsible for organising the game.
